Ingredients

  • Onion: 1 medium
  • Beef: 15–20 small pieces
  • Split peas: 5–6 tablespoons
  • Tomato paste: 3 tablespoons
  • Brewed saffron: as desired
  • Potatoes: 2 large
  • Dried limes (Limoo Amani): 3
  • Salt, pepper, turmeric: to taste

Instructions

Soak the split peas in lukewarm water for 30 minutes before starting to cook.

Finely chop the onion and sauté it in oil with salt, pepper, and turmeric.

Add the beef and sauté for about 20 minutes.

Add the tomato paste and sauté for about 10 minutes.

Add the soaked split peas and sauté again for 5 minutes.

Add water and the dried limes, making sure not to add too much water.

If cooking in a regular pot, the cooking time will be about 1 to 1.5 hours. If using a pressure cooker, it will take about 30 minutes.

Fry the potatoes, cut into thin strips, and serve them alongside the stew.
